With the upcoming election just two weeks away, it is more important than ever for us to leverage our voices to elect leaders that have both our community and the country’s best interest at heart. Especially given the scope and scale of the issues at stake.
While the presidential election plays a vital role in shaping many policies for the country, it is, of course, not the only race with implications for the future. For change to be implemented across the board, we also need to focus on local community issues and candidates because problems that concern most of us are addressed on a local level.
I believe strongly that businesses should help support their communities while driving broader societal impact. Now more than ever, amidst multiple crises, our country and our democracy depend on each of us exercising this critical civic duty and honor.
To ensure that all our people have time to cast their votes; and help out in their own capacity with the voting process – be it as a volunteer, helping seniors or family get to the polling center, or making a difference in their own way, Shapiro+Raj will be closing all its offices on Tuesday, November 3rd. This will not impact our deliverables to clients or our commitments to partners. But, hopefully, we will make it easier for people in our communities to get out and vote.
As Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the UNESCO said on September 14 this year, "On this International Day of Democracy, we are celebrating more than a simple principle of political organization: we are celebrating an ideal whose foundations are “the dignity, equality and mutual respect” of people."
On November 3rd, I hope we can all get out and celebrate dignity, equality, and mutual respect and bring to life the spirit of the Constitution… “to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common Defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”
